vestry adJoins the
cript of the Epistle, a cript of the Chance! and a
baptistry. In the seventeenth century there were
three doors, but today there is but one entrance,
the others having been closed when Bishop Se–
rrada ordered the repairs to be made. There is
a tower which serves as

belfry. The ne'\v con–
struction of the eighteenth century was directed
by the Friar

Miguel de los Angeles
M·enchaca, whom. the Bishop appointed as super–
\ntendent of the work of the church.

days through whose devotion they were execut–
ed-the conception "amestizada". Adorning the
ancient Chapel of the Baptistry is a painting
depicting the descent of Mary at Suntur-Huasi.
There are also portraits of Incas and Coyas,
in colonial attire , in attitudes of prayer at each
side of the lmage of Mary. Here is the following
inscription: "At this place of Suntur-Huasi
descended Mary, queen of the .heavens". In the
interior of the vestry is a panoramic picture of
exceptional merit, recalling the earthquakes of
