under the dome of the transept.
Underground Chapel.
Beneath the cript of the transept is an under–
ground chapel reached by a fairly long stair–
way. Within it may yet be seen fragments of an
altar front. Under the floor of this chapel there
is another, still smaller, intended for tombs.
Spires.
At each side of the front there are two spires
wíth their respective belfries, well shaped and of
greater height than those of the Cathedral.

the church stands that which
was formerly the chapel of St. Ignacious, and,
as has been said, is today the assembly room of
the Society of Artisans. The front is of interest,
being decorated with the coat of arms of the
Bishop Mendoza.
The University.
Joining that ancient sanctuary is the Uni–
versity of Cuzco, formerly the monastery of the
