Benefactors.
Among the innumerable benefactors of this
Cathedral during two centuries or ,more of its
colonial splendor, should be especially mentioned
the illustrious ecclesiastics

Rivera an.d Diego Arias de la Serda. The

bis will dated October 4th, 1631, states that
during the many years he directed the construc–
ti on of the temple he spent of his own means,

the work of constructio.n and in gifts to the
cathedral, more than $40,000. Diego Arias de la
Serda, in a clause in his will dated in 1684, also
stated that he had spent another forty thousand
dollars. In addi ·

provision for the cel ·bration of masses in his
behalf in that church, and in addition bestowed
