In the second half of the seventeenth cent–
ury. the principal master of the construction
ot
the Cath dral d n Diego Arias de la Serda, im–
proved this church building the cupola or dome
of the transept which may be seen today.

here the companions of Pizarra
took r fuge during the

orrdidable attack made
by the Inca Manco II for the purpose of expelling
the conquerors and regaining the domain of the
Incas. Although
it
is true that this work was
begun as early as 1664, it was not then finished.
This new construction which was ordered by the
prelate "'ras completed with the money given by
dean Goyzueta years before-therefore the Church
of the Triumph was built in three periods: the
first
during the sixteenth century when it served as a
cathedrial;
the second during the sevent enth
