Terraces

In all Inca constructions

the

terrace was

einployed someimes t;ts an ornamental e'lem·ent,

. sometimes for greater strength, or utilized as an

engineering re ource in the oase of slope ; in

other cases it servea merely

poses. The terrac , therefore, served equally the

cause of

agricultu~e

and architecture, ·and for

this reason

ound in all olasses

of

buildings,

religious sanc.tuaries, fortress·e·s, dwellings, etc.

A considerable extension of Inca Cuzco w·as

built upon terraces and fills.
