Conquista" carried by the Padre Valverde in Cajamarca and

brought to Cuzco 'by the Greek Pedro de Candia, o!f the a.rtillel'f

forces of the

fir.st

con·querors and one of the thirteen héroes· of the

Isla del Gallo, who died in the year 1542

in

the Batalla de Chu'Pas.

The painting.s 'decora.ting the Mchw.ays of the church have

the .partieular di&tinction of havimg been done eapecially for this

purpose and of never having beem moved from iilieir present

positions where placed, according to señor Cossia del P(}mar.

In the sacristJy (left to the entrallJCe) is a large painting,

(restored) of great documentary value.

It

representS scenes of th.i

earthiquake which desitroyed Cuzco the 31st of Marc-h 1650, and

in which can •be noted the plan of the former city. A sta,tue o'f

christ in marble is also a work of art.

H'.ATUN CANCHA. - On leaving the Matriz, and

to

the left,

there is a street enterin.g into the Plaza called Triunfo. On the

fol'mation of a curvad corner will be seen the ruin& of Inca:ic

walls o.f S'<)Ua.red stone highly polished and dressed. The lines of

the walls lead to the portal and to the Calle del Triunfo, forming

the c·urv¡1d comer. They are the remain5

of the
