on
that

S
ince the
Method
of Hiftory requires,
that
every
thing
illould
be
related
·
in its due time and place.,
we
fhall here
at
the beginning of this
eigll~
Book,
defcribe
two
particular paffages which happened in
Coz..co
after
the
Wars
with
Francifco
Hernanaez,
were ended, and before
~he
arrival
of the Vice-King, whofe Prefence was inftantly defired, and expected in that
Kingdom.
One of thofe
Matters,
which according to this
rule,
we are to
mention,
is the
pqmpous
and folemn celebration
of
that Feftival, which We
Catholicks
call,
Corpus Chrifti.,
performed
in
the
City
of
Co~co.
After thofe
Wars
were ended, whkh the Devil had raifed
to

Gofpel ;
the
laft of which was that
of
Prancifco Her–

and may
God
in his
Mercy
grant,
that it may frill be
the
laft.,
and
fucceeded
by

other of that N atute.
The
Solemnity o f
that

is
now obferved with
as much m?gnificence.,
and perhaps
with'.
more,
than
at that time : 'for
thQfe
Wars were concluded at the
end
of the
year
15
54, and we
are
now
in
the year
i
61 -1,
from which time t•o
this
prefent in
which we
are
writing this Chapter,
fifty
feven
yeats
have palled of
Peace
and
Tranquility.
My
iptention
is
only
to
write
the Hiftories of thofe times,
and
to
leave the
fucceffes
of
the prefe nt .t o
the

In
thofe
day~
the re
were about 80 Citizens, or men
of

who

of
Noble Rank and Extrat\:ion;

Every one
of
thefe
Gentlemen
with great Cu riofity adorned his Chair., or

the Ornaments
thereof
were

which were fo rne thiog
