Spaniards

with an apprehenfion of

them of the Riches and

which they had gained ; for fuch

is

the condltlon of humane nature, which can

never be entirely happy, or profperous without forne mixtures of

£hall declare afterwards, being obliged

firfi:

to recount other important matters

which were tranfatled at that time ; for we mufi know, that foon afrer the de–

Titfll. Atauchi,

and his Captains, fpe–

cifying the Care, the Entertainments, and the Prefents befiowed on them, as alfo

the Attendance and Accommodation which had been afforded them for their

Journey; and alfo the Articles which they had emred into,

in

behalf of the

with the

and

, in fine, they related the methods of Jufiice which

had been executed on

Great was the joy

which t

turn in fafety ; and more was their wonder,

to

underfiand and hear the civility

and kind treatment which the

Indians

had ufed towards them; as alfo the Parti–

culars of the Death of

de

Cuellar,

being a paffage very obfervable, that they iliould

6nely vent their anger and revenge on his fingle Perfon, and not onely fuffer the

ochers to efcape but

contribute to their departure with freedom and honour :

But

that at which the
